The African Centre for Water Research has established partnerships with national and international development and research organisations. ACWR is a member of GWP-SA, Associate Member of the Freshwater Action Network (FAN) and African Civil Society Network on Water and Sanitation (ANEW) as well as a regular collaborator with Waternet. For the implementation of its projects ACWR is part of and makes use of an extensive network of regional and international individuals, research institutions and consultancies.
Forming project partnerships with ACWR:
ACWR regularly forms project consortia with national, regional and international partners. Depending on the nature of the consortium ACWR either takes on the role as lead organisation or joins as a partner organisation. Organisations wanting to make use of ACWRs expertise in areas such as transboundary water resources management, stakeholder involvement, water law, trade and water policies and water services regulation are invited to approach ACWR to partner with them for the development and subsequent implementation of projects.
Institutional and project management support for emerging researchers:
The African Centre for Water Research provides institutional and project management support for individuals who lack the institutional back-up regularly required by funding agencies. Individual researchers not permanently linked with an institution, can approach ACWR with research projects and project ideas and become Associates of ACWR. ACWR can assist you in the preparation of funding proposals and provide project management support during the implementation phase of projects. The benefits to you of being an Associate of ACWR are:
|
 |
You have an institutional base through which to apply for funding on projects
|

How to become an Associate:
Any professional with a post-graduate qualification in a field broadly related to water, development, environment, social science can approach ACWR with a request to become an Associate. The emphasis is placed on being able to operate in a multi-disciplinary environment. To be considered as an Associate the applicant needs to submit an original piece of writing such as a journal paper, research report or book chapter. The topic should be broadly related to the areas of focus of ACWR. This will be posted on the ACWR website as an Occasional Paper.
Joining ACWR as a research intern:
The African Centre for Water Research is a growing organisation and hosts research interns on a regular basis. ACWR is committed to capacity building and particularly encourages young professionals studying towards degrees in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), Environmental Management, Development Studies, Geography and related fields to apply as research interns. Becoming a research intern with ACWR is the ideal springboard for subsequently becoming a full-time researcher with the organisation.
